PalmMate Color Replacement Cases
It took about 30 minutes to swap cases and it was a harrowing experience. I held my life in my hands, and didn't know what to do next. That's how my experience with the PalmMate color replacement case began. Keep in mind that the PalmMate replacement cases are only for the Palm III series.
towards easing my fears. As it turned out, it really wasn't that difficult, but I was apprehensive nonetheless. A screwdriver of the proper size is also a must. I have several small screwdrivers, but the screws on the back of the Palm aren't small, they are TINY! I ended up using my penknife. (kids, don't try this at home)
All of my snap-on modules and tale devices were snug and fit well and overall, the case seemed to be almost as good as the original. The stylus that is included however, is light as a feather and I don't care for it at all. It feels cheap and have concerns about it scratching the screen.

What I like:
Translucent colors look cool.

What I don't like:

The PalmMate comes in an attractive, professionally packaged box that lists features and colors on the back. Color choices include blueberry(shown here), tangerine, strawberry, lime, grape and pure clear. A clear color pen is also included. For reasons I'm not clear on, there was a black line drawn through the statement 'detailed replacement instructions and screw driver included'. I didn't get either and really wished I had both. (I later found instructions at the PalmMate site, however these were test only and somewhat vague) The fit and finish of the case is not as good as a stock Palm case, however it everything fit where it was supposed to and screwed back together easily enough. There were some small rough spots on the edges here and there, and I would hope that these can be fine tuned in the machining and deburring process. |
| As you can see, the case is more or less translucent. It's really cool to look at the guts of your palm and the color is a nice change from the slate grey. One thing I didn't like was that the stylus was a VERY tight fit. It was so difficult to remove, I found myself using my spare stylus because I was afraid that the Palm would fly out of my hands from all the tugging. Instructions are a must.
