Pool v1.13 by Giles Goddard
I've never been a good Pool player and guess what, it turns out that I'm not all that great at the Palm version either. That doesn't mean I don't enjoy playing though, and quite frankly, Pool by Giles Goddard is alot of fun.

Pool is a 1 or 2 player game that even supports infrared play! Giles has been very responsive to his customers and has made several changes and updates to the program to continually improve it. What started out as a very basic and limited game has developed into a full featured Pool game that has become more playable with each update.
Pool v1.13 that I reviewed was a demo copy (available at Palmgear) that only allows a certain number of shots, but other than that, the game is completely playable. |
When you start Pool, you choose 1 player, 2 player or 2 player IR, press start and you begin the game with a racked up table. Place the ball, then draw a line behind the ball(which is neatly illustrated to look like a pool stick) and lift the stylus. That's how simple aiming and shooting is. New to this version is the ablility to add 'english' to the ball. This is done via the small white circle superimposed inside the black square that is in the lower right hand side of the screen. You simply tap and move the dot to the side of the ball that you want to put the spin on. |

The table can be rotated for ease of aiming by simply pressing the up or down scroll buttons. Preferences include table speed and the hardness of the cushions. Cushions can be hard, medium or soft and the table can be fast, medium or slow.
The documentation with the game is a little thin, especially regarding rules of the game, but a good HTML page is included with the game in the zip file. One other tiny gripe is that the 'break' is kind of weak. Other than that, gameplay is fine.
This is a fun game and I'm glad to see that the developer is responsive to his customers. |
Pool is available at PalmGear and pdaBusiness.com for $7.95 and uses 17k of Palm memory.
What I like:
You can rotate the table.
Fair price.
Just plain fun!
What I don't like:
Break is a little weak.
8 ball is the only game available(other games are in the works)
No 'player v. computer' option (in the works)
4 out of 5 Rating
