SuperBlue Talelight

SuperBlue Talelight by Tech Center Labs

The SuperBlue Talelight by Tech Center Labs is a neat little tale device.  I already own one of the original talelights and this new model is a great improvement. It's much brighter, casts a cool blue light and can actually be used as a flashlight!

The talelight is a small grey module that plugs into the hotsync port of the Palm.  It is very well built and easy to insert and remove.  It does draw power directly from the Palm and you will notice some battery drain if you run around using the talelight as a flashlight, however using the talelight as a silent/visual alarm does not cause noticeable battery drain.

There are several talelight compatible applications available for download at the Tech Center Labs web site, as well as at PalmGear and Handango.  Some of these applications include Light, Talelight, Snoozer and ClockPro to mention just a few.

The SuperBlue Talelight plugs into the serial port of the Palm and when activated casts a bright blue light.  It is not quite bright enough to light up a room as is claimed on the web site, but it is bright enough to use as a small flashlight to find something in the dark, or to read by.  Another great use-my angel fish and beta are fascinated by it when I set it to blink every second using the TaleLight app.

The SuperBlue Talelight/Flashlight is available for Palm Pilot/III models as well as the Palm V.  Both versions are $29.

Honestly, I have to think long and hard about what I would use the SuperBlue Talelight for.  I hardly use my alarms at all, and in the rare cases that I do, I need the audible alarm.  I find myself using it more as a flashlight than anything else, and this probably isn't the smartest thing to do with my Palm, but it sure is cool.  Now, this could just be my personal experience, so keep that in mind if you find yourself using a lot of alarms.  This is definitely a better alternative than using the Palm's backlight as a visual alarm.

What I like:
Bright enough to use as a flashlight
Cool blue color
Provides a visual alert for those of us that keep our PalmIIIx lids closed(I know, shame on me.)

What I don't like:
A bit pricey for what it does
Limited uses
