TankPilot by Giles Goddard

TankPilot is not an easy game!  The first few levels are easy enough, but that doesn't last long!  I had tried TankPilot by Giles Goddard before I got an evaluation copy and it was so much fun I had already planned on writing a review.  Does anyone remember the old arcade game Battlezone?  I do.  It was a fun game then, and this version for the Palm is just as fun.

TankPilot uses 25k of memory and is a snap to install and start playing.  The game controls are simple.  The datebook and address buttons control the left and right turning of the tank, while the up and down scroll buttons go forward and backwards.  ToDo fires your missile and the Memo button detonates the smart bomb that blows up everything.  The controls can also be changed in preferences.   Additionally, in preferences, you can turn off the cross hairs, background effects, and invert the colors(daytime).
The object of the game is simple, drive your tank around the landscape, blowing up tanks while not getting blown up yourself.  This is easier said than done!  There are smart missiles to contend with and those enemy tanks move fast!  You can hide behind obstacles, but remember, the missiles home in on you and you have to keep on the move to outrun them.
From what I can tell in the evaluation copy(that only included the first 3 levels) it appears that the number of tanks increases at about the same rate as you progress through the level, so

one tank on level one, two on level two, etc.,  although I could be wrong on this point. I don't even want to think about what level 50 is like!

This is a great game and well worth the money!  It's simple to play yet hard to beat.  Carry extra batteries with you and steady those cross hairs!

TankPilot is available at PalmGear for $7.95.

What I like:
Doesn't take a lot of Palm memory.
Game controls are simple.
Challenging game play.

What I don't like:
Nothing!  This is a great game!
